PĂŢHAVIMARŚA (Textual Notes) Chapter II (Jātis)7 1. These two words in p.t. do not seem to fit into the context. They are followed by the verse that we have placed as no. 191, because it does not seem to be relevant here. NS also reads this verse as no. 37 with minor reading variants and again repeats it as verse 442 with a slightly different reading after the enumeration of the eighteen jātis, the purport being the same. Abhinavagupta comments only on the second occurrence of this verse.1 We have changed the location of this verse from the beginning to the end of the enumeration and nomenclature of the eighteen jātis8. 2. These verses have been restored here from NS XXVIII. 39-41. 3. MS B reading as recorded by the ed. NŠ also reads karmāravī at this point, but in all subsequent occurrences the reading is kārmāravī9; hence we have preferred 'kā'. 4. NS Chau. XXVIII.44. 10. We have replaced 'jātiṣu' with 'hāniṣu' on the basis of Abhi Bhā on NS XXVIII. 47, p. 38, because it seems to be more appropriate with regard to the meaning. 11. Six verses from here (193-198) bear similarity to Datti 49-54.6 The reading variants are tabulated below -
