इदानीमवसरप्राप्तानां जातीनामुद्देशमाह-तत्र जातयोऽष्टादशैव8। एता: सर्वांशभेदेन(:) समांश्र
शतं चत्वारिशदधिकं सङ्ख्यया भवन्ति१ तत्र स्वरे
र[ जातयोऽष्टादशेत्येवं ब्रह्मणाभिहितं पुरा।2 तास्त्वहं वर्तयिष्यामि ग्रहांशादिविभागत:10 ॥१८५॥
[षड्जग्रामाश्रिता जातय:]
षाड्जी चैवार्षभी चैव धैवत्यथ निषादिनी।
षड्जोदीच्यवती चैव तथा वै षड्जकैशिकी ॥१८६॥ षड्जमध्या तथा चैव षड्जग्रामसमाश्रया: ॥१८७॥
॥ इति सप्त षड्जग्रामाश्रयाः॥
[मध्यमग्रामाश्रिता जातय:]
अत ऊर्ध्वं प्रवक्ष्यामि मध्यमग्रामसंश्रिता: ॥१८८॥6]
गान्धारी मध्यमा चैव पञ्चमी च तथैव हि ।
गान्धारोदीच्यवा चैव तथा गान्धारपञ्चमी ॥१८९॥ ततश्च रक्तगान्धारी मध्यमोदीच्यवा॰ दच्यि • तथा।4

Now he (the author)spoke (speaks) about the nomenclature of jātis at the appropriate time and place. The jātis are only eighteen.8 These become one hundred and forty in number according to all the variations of amsa svaras.9 <math>\it J\bar{a}tis</math> are only eighteen as has been said earlier by Brahmä? I shall explain <math>^3</math> them according to the distinction of their graha, amsa and the like.

[The jātis of şadjagrāma]
Ṣāḍjī and ārṣabhī and dhaivatī, then niṣādinī, ṣaḍjodīcyavatī and ṣaḍjakaiśikī and ṣadjamadhyā (these are the jātis) based on ṣadjagrāma. (186, 187) Thus end the seven (jātis) based on ṣadjagrāma .
[The jātis of madhyamagrāma]
After this, I shall speak of the jātis based on madhyamagrāma. (188)6 Gändhäri, madhyamä and pañcami and similarly gändhärodicyavā and gāndhārapañcamī, after that raktagāndhārī and similarly madhyamodīcyavā4,
